COPELOUZOS GROUP is active in the field of airport development and management. The family of Mr. Dimitrios Copelouzos possesses a 4.99% stake in the management company of the Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos".

The Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" is one of the most modern and advanced European airports and it has been receiving distinctions for the safety, the quality of the provided services to the passengers and the visitors and the perfect organization of its operations and services.

It possesses state of the art infrastructures and operation and management systems, high level security systems, 1,200 car-parking spaces and comfortable waiting areas for the visitors. AIA hosts 50 shops, 14 restaurants and cafeterias, a fully equipped Business Center, a 5-star hotel and many other facilities and services that ensure a pleasant stay to the customers. A rapidly growing real estate market has been developed around the area of the central station of the airport, hosting large commercial stores such as IKEA and KOTSOVOLOS, one of the largest greek chain of retail stores for electrical appliances.

Within the same area of the Airport Retail Park, two more stores have been developed which completed the development of the area: the FACTORY OUTLET discount store begun its operation in December 2006 and the first DIY (Do It Yourself) store of the famous brand LEROY MERLIN which began its operation in spring of 2007.

Finally, in June 2007 an agreement was initiated for the development of the new state-of-the-art Exhibition Centre, METROPOLITAN EXPO. METROPOLITAN EXPO, which launched operations in 2009, is the largest exhibition centre in Attica, spanning over 50,000 square metres and at the same time the most modern one, offering exhibition infrastructure of European standards to the region and the entire country.

The Airport started its operations on March 2001 and since then it has developed a corporate strategy that ensures optimal operation, enhances competitiveness, permits constant economic growth and promotes the unobstructed fulfillment of its social mission.

The Airport has been awarded several times for its accomplishments in terms of Business and Operational Excellence, Customer Satisfaction and Corporate Services, Cargo Development, I&T and Telecoms Services as well as Environmental and Cultural activities. The most recent accomplishments of Athens International Airport are presented below:

  • ATRS Business Efficiency Excellence Runner-up Award – (May 2006)
  • Winner of OAG Airport Marketing Award for the best airline development programme – (October 2006)
  • AETRA Awards – 2nd best airport in the world for 2004 (June 2005): For 2004, the International Aviation Community conferred the following distinctions on AIA: 2nd place in the world (airport size category 5 -15 million per annum), and 3rd place in Europe regardless of airport size category, in the “Overall Passenger Satisfaction” category
  • Best Cargo Airport 2006 - (April 2006)

    COPELOUZOS GROUP, through its participation to Athens International Airport, achieved its entrance to the sector and secured the acquisition of the necessary know-how for the implementation of its strategy to expand its activities to the airport sector, and to further exploit new opportunities that will in the sector in Greece, in the Balkans and in Europe.
