The Electric Energy Sector constitutes one of the main and most successful activities of COPELOUZOS GROUP, with extensive experience and remarkable results.
These activities cover all aspects of Electric Energy Production, Transmission and Distribution.
More specifically, the Group is involved in all issues concerning the supply and installation of equipment for Thermal Power Plants (Lignite, Diesel and Coal Fired Plants, Combined Cycle Natural Gas Fired Plants, Power Generating Sets, etc.), Cogeneration Plants, Hydroelectric Power Plants, Renewable Energy Sources (Wind, Small Hydro Plants, Solar, Geothermal etc.).
In collaboration with established foreign firms, the Group has supplied the Public Power Corporation of Greece (PPC) and various industries, "turn-key" power projects as well as equipment for the Power Stations and the Transmission and Distribution Networks.
In the field of large power plants (lignite-fired and natural gas-fired) the Group holds a leading position due to its involvement in various projects in the past and at present, as well as due to the development of new plants in Greece and in the broader area of Southeastern Europe.
In September 1999 ENELCO S.A. was established, which is a joint company between
ENEL INVESTMENT HOLDING B.V. (a 100% subsidiary of the Italian Electricity Producer
ENEL S.p.A.) which holds 75% of the share capital and PROMETHEUS GAS S.A., holding the remaining 25%.
Following the deregulation of the Greek electicity market on February 19 2001, ENELCO S.A. possesses the capability to develop activities relevant to the production and supply of electricity to Eligible Customers according to the Greek Law 2773/99 and recently according to Law 3426/2005 which transposes EU Directive 2003/54.
ENELCO S.A. has submitted to the Regulatory Authority for Energy three applications for Power Generation Authorisations in Elefsina (Attiki), Levadia (Viotia) and Evros (Thrace). Each power plant will have a capacity of 390-450 MW and will be fuelled by natural gas.
On the 23rd of April 2001, the Minister of Development awarded ENELCO two
power generation licenses for the Levadia and Evros locations. The application for Elefsina was not processed - as the status quo on the installation of new power generation plants in the area of Attika had not yet been resolved by the Ministry of Development - and has since then been put on-hold.
The strategic cooperation of the Group with large energy companies, and the securing of natural gas which is the most suitable fuel for power production, guarantee an even more successful course of the Group in this field in the next years.
Another strong step into the new deregulated electricity market is the involvement of the Group in other types of plants such as hydroelectric power plants, supply of diesel generating sets to the Greek islands and participation in various schemes for the construction and operation of wind parks and small hydroelectric plants in many locations of Greece.
